Early Years Foundation Stage
Rationale
At Tividale Community Primary School, our children are happy. We place each child at the heart of everything we do. We believe that our youngest children deserve opportunities to be successful lifelong learners by equipping them with the tools they need to succeed. This is based on mutual respect and building positive relationships with all involved. We strive to provide opportunities for the children to be heard so they feel valued, respected and cared for. We have high expectations of ourselves and children. We encourage the children to develop respect, resilience and to take responsibility. We recognise that children have different starting points to their learning. As a result of this, we deliver a personalised and tailored curriculum to ensure children thrive and become happy, aspirational, confident, self-motivated, risk takers, problem solvers, curious and independent learners.
Our Curriculum
Our curriculum is planned around four main principles.
A Unique Child |
Positive Relationships | Enabling Environments | Learning and Development |
Every child is a unique child who is constantly learning and can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured. |
Children learn to be strong and independent through positive relationships. | Children learn and develop well in enabling environments with teaching and support from adults, who respond to their individual interests and needs and help them to build their learning over time. Children benefit from a strong partnership between practitioners and parents and/or carers. | Children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates. Practitioners teach children by ensuring challenging, playful opportunities, across all areas of learning |
Our knowledge and skills based curriculum is driven by the children and their interests and what we have observed they need to learn to understand and experience. Our love of books and reading also drives our curriculum as we believe listening to stories, poems and rhymes helps feed children’s imagination, develop their vocabulary and comprehension skills to enable them to communicate more effectively. We personalise our planning to meet the individual needs of our children ensuring all areas of learning are planned for through purposeful and meaningful play opportunities, with a balance of child-initiated and adult led learning. Through our planning, we provide opportunities for children to revisit and review learning in order to help them remember more.
