Physical Education
PE Rationale
Through teaching physical education, we aim to provide our pupils with the foundations to understand physical activity and inspires all pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically demanding activities.
At Tividale Community Primary School, our aims to inspire all children to develop a love of physical activity and sport. It provides opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness. Opportunities to compete in sport and other activities build character and help to embed values such as fairness and respect.
We believe pupils should;
- Be confident, resilient and motivated children who will strive for their personal best, raising high self-esteem.
- Have the values and positive behaviour to celebrate and respect the success of others, as well as modestly celebrating their own successes.
- Have equal opportunities to listen to our children’s want and needs and provide them with a range of active experiences and clubs.
- Have the skills and mind-set to leave primary school with the capabilities to be successful in their sporting challenges and active lifestyles at secondary school and beyond.
- Be educated alongside their families to have a greater understanding on how to live healthy lifestyles and make healthy choices.
- Have healthy minds, as well as bodies and will continue to support our children’s well-being.
- Have access to strong links to local clubs and partnerships within our community to ensure that children and families receive the support and knowledge they need.
Our PE curriculum encourages pupils to be curious and ask questions about what they learn and observe.
In key stage 1 pupils develop fundamental movement skills, become increasingly competent and confident and access a broad range of opportunities to extend their agility, balance and coordination, individually and with others.
In key stage 2 pupils continue to apply and develop a broader range of skills, learning how to use them in different ways and to link them to make actions and sequences of movement. They enjoy communicating, collaborating and competing with each other. They develop an understanding of how to improve in different physical activities and sports and learn how to evaluate and recognise their own success.
