Attendance & Punctuality
School term dates can be found on Sandwell Council website – www.sandwell.gov.uk
Please note that the term dates do not include staff training days/other closure days. Please refer to the school calendar section for this information.
Good attendance and punctuality are vital to the progress of our children’s education and while we accept that we are all ill on occasions, unavoidably late or absent, parents are expected to ensure their child attends school regularly. Parents are expected to work with the school to ensure their child has good attendance and punctuality and this is an expectation as part of the code of conduct.
As a parent, it is your responsibility to:
- ensure your child attends school on time every day,
- inform the school office immediately if your child will be absent from school for any reason. There is a 24 hour voicemail service and email address school.admin@tividale-pri.sandwell.sch.uk
- take holidays during the school holiday periods and not to take holidays during term time,
- if a leave of absence is required, a request must be made to the headteacher on the Leave of Absence request form, which can be found on our school website or gained from the school office. All requests must be made at least 10 working days before the proposed start date of the absence. Parents should not assume that returning the form guarantees that their absence request will be approved.
Where parents take children out of school during term time the absence will be recorded as unauthorised and will be referred to Local Authority School Attendance Support Service which may result in you being issued with a Penalty Notice.
Please be advised that parents who fail to ensure their child’s regular attendance can be fined in accordance with the National Framework for Issuing Penalty Notices - a copy of which can be found above.
Always aim for 100% attendance.
Sometimes 90% sounds great - for example this would be a great result in a test...however, in terms of attendance it means your child misses 1 whole school day every fortnight.
Always aim to be on time.
Did you know that arriving 10 minutes late to school everyday means that your child misses 32 hours of lesson time each year? Your child also misses the introduction to the school day and morning routines that are vital to set the children up for the day ahead.
